What is TMJ treatment? The TMJ (TemporoMandibular Joint) is a bicondylar joint between the mandible and the temporal bone, and acts as a sliding hinge that allows opening, closing and side-to-side movements.

Poor coordination between the different parts of the temporomandibular joint can lead to TMJ syndrome , the most common dysfunctional disorder of this joint. One of the main causes of temporomandibular dysfunction is bruxism, or teeth clenching, usually due to stress. This can cause constant tension between the joint and the muscles it interacts with. Poor postural habits also cause tension in the muscles, articular discs and ligaments of the joint. Likewise, malocclusion or dental alignment problems can also cause these disorders.

At Grup Creu Blava we have a physiotherapy service specialising in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems.

What is Respiratory Physiotherapy? Respiratory Physiotherapy, also known as Pulmonary Physiotherapy or Respiratory Therapy, is a speciality of physiotherapy concerned with the treatment, prevention and stabilisation of the various diseases of the respiratory system or any condition that interferes with its proper functioning, in order to maintain or improve respiratory function.

Chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD, bronchiectasis or asthma, and neurological conditions that reduce respiratory capacity such as ALS, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophies or Parkinson’s, greatly reduce the quality of life of those affected and their families.

Its applications can therefore be summarised as: treatment of bronchial obstruction, retraining of the breathing pattern and exercise retraining.

This is where Respiratory Physiotherapy for adults comes in, with clear benefits for the patient:

The main, fundamental aim is to clear the airways (removing and mobilising phlegm), and then to work towards breathing retraining and exercise retraining.

Grup Creu Blava has specialists in Respiratory Physiotherapy who, before starting any type of treatment, will carry out an assessment to quantify and qualify the patient’s condition, taking into account: their medical history, background, lung auscultation, signs and symptoms, and the use of various dyspnoea assessment tests (difficulty breathing, breathlessness, shortness of breath).

Once the assessment is complete, conclusions are drawn and the therapeutic treatment programme best suited to the patient is put in place.

Indications for Respiratory Physiotherapy for children What does Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy involve? The main aim of the respiratory physiotherapist is to teach children and their families to use the techniques and do the exercises that help keep the airways clear (making it easier to remove secretions), control dyspnoea (the subjective feeling of breathlessness) and increase exercise tolerance. This is where Respiratory Physiotherapy for babies and children comes in:

At Grup Creu Blava we are committed to a Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy service with complete dedication to the patient and caring, personalised treatment, using the most advanced and effective techniques delivered by Respiratory Physiotherapy specialists with the training and experience to offer our patients the highest quality care.

The Respiratory Physiotherapy techniques for babies and children we use at Grup Creu Blava are based on respiratory physiology; they are painless, have no side effects, are extremely effective and deliver immediate results. For all these reasons, more and more paediatricians recommend Paediatric Respiratory Physiotherapy.

Parents should always be present during the Respiratory Physiotherapy session to reassure and support their children and also to share the experience and learn essential tools, such as how to do nasal washes properly – key to keeping the dreaded mucus at bay.

What is kinesiotaping? Neuromuscular taping or kinesiotaping consists of cotton tapes with an acrylic adhesive used to treat athletes’ injuries and other physical disorders. Some simple coloured strips have revolutionised the world of sport and therapy. These strips, originally known as ‘ coloured bandages ’ refer to the Neuromuscular Taping or Kinesiotaping technique .

It is a therapeutic tool based on applying strips of non-medicated, elastic, adhesive and porous tape in different colours, which are fixed to the skin in various shapes and with different degrees of tension.
