Urology and Andrology

Men are advised to have an annual urological check-up from the age of 50 if there is no family history of urinary or prostate tumours, or from the age of 40 if there is such a history. This check-up makes it possible to detect potentially serious urological problems at an early stage, such as prostate, bladder or testicular tumours, and other conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia or erectile dysfunction.

Although an annual check-up is the most advisable option, there are some warning symptoms that should prompt a man to see a urologist sooner, such as difficulty or discomfort when urinating, blood in the urine or semen, pain in the testicles or perineum, and erection or ejaculation disorders.

Even today, there is still a certain embarrassment about seeing a specialist who deals with such an intimate part of the male body, a taboo that women have already overcome, having clearly seen the health benefits of an annual visit to the gynaecologist.

Men need to overcome their reluctance to have a urological check-up and see it as a routine visit from a certain age that can benefit their health and improve their quality of life.
